GRACE GREATER THAN LAW

Technically, what this woman did was a violation of the law because of her uncleanness. The stipulations in Leviticus did not allow a woman with a flow of blood to touch another person, or else that person would also become unclean. So to pull off her plan, she had to skip over the law.

How can we explain that? Very simple: Grace has always been greater than law. What she needed was grace, and that grace was there in the person of Jesus. The Bible says that “the law was given through Moses,” but “grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” (John 1:17). The law was telling this woman to go away and not touch Jesus or anyone else; but grace was calling out, “Come close! I’m here for you!” The law said she was an outcast; grace was saying, “There’s room for you here; come take your place.” The law said she was condemned; grace was saying, “Your condemnation is cancelled.”

Grace has always been greater than law.
